Disaster Recovery Manger

Position Description Position Overview:
A client of BC Management is seeking a Disaster Recovery Manager. The DR
Manager is responsible for managing, mentoring, coaching, and developing a
Disaster Recovery team of six to eight associates and contractors,
including: associate development; IT associate BC/DR education and
awareness; the ongoing assessment of business continuity risks; the
development of disaster recovery strategies; the ongoing evaluation of
Disaster Recovery requirements and capabilities; and the development,
testing, and maintenance of BC/DR plans for the client's IT groups.

Additionally, the Disaster Recovery Manager ensures that the client's IT
infrastructure, applications, and business-critical data can be fully
recovered in the event of a business interruption. The Disaster Recovery
Manager also ensures appropriate availability and continuity for mission
critical business applications and services by assuring the development,
implementation, integration, and assessment of risk management strategies,
tactics, and procedures for technology and IT systems across the
enterprise.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Disaster
Recovery team, whose mission is to facilitate the strategic, technical, and
operational coordination of disaster recovery capabilities.

Candidates are required to have Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity
planning, testing, and IT project experience in addition to demonstrated
managerial ability.

Roles & Responsibilities:
- Leads, mentors, coaches, and develops the Disaster Recovery team members,
including providing feedback, assisting in the creation and maintenance of
associates' development plans, interviewing, participating in the hiring
decision, handling performance issues, and writing and delivering annual
performance reviews.

- Provides leadership and coordination for this client's IT teams during an
actual event

- Proactively identifies IT-related Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery
risks

- Proactively identifies the technical requirements that meet or exceed the
recovery requirements of mission critical business functions

- Facilitates the continuous evaluation and improvement of disaster
recovery strategies and capabilities

- Provides direction for individual team members on Disaster Recovery
initiatives and projects

- Acts as a project lead / SME to various global BC/DR projects and
initiatives

- Provides leadership for the development, maintenance, and testing of
business continuity (BC) and disaster recovery (DR) plans

- Ensures that all infrastructure and application recovery plans are
reviewed according to established corporate business continuity policy and
guidelines and updated annually and/or when major infrastructure changes
occur

- Promotes business continuity management through BC/DR education and
awareness for associates and management

- Facilitates the documentation, mitigation, tracking, and closure of open
BC/DR issues identified during real events, exercises and/or audits.

 

Hiring Criteria Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- 5+ years of experience managing a team of technical individuals,
including providing feedback, assisting in the creation and maintenance of
associates' development plans, interviewing, participating in the hiring
decision, handling performance issues, and writing and delivering annual
performance reviews.

- Exceptional technical and professional skills with 5-8 years of
increasing responsibility in the field of IT Disaster Recovery Planning for
a large, complex, multi-platform organization

- Strong knowledge of the business continuity lifecycle, including DR
planning techniques, tools, risk assessments, business impact analysis, and
recovery strategy development

- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication and collaboration
skills with all levels of management and associates; and the ability to
motivate teams to apply skills and techniques to solve complex problems

- Strong knowledge of current enterprise-level disaster recovery planning
techniques and technologies

- Ability to understand, communicate and solve complex problems quickly

- Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills

- Strong multi-tasking skills, including the ability to set shifting
priorities and meet deadlines

- Demonstrated ability to influence individuals, lead teams, and work
effectively with all levels of management

- Strong project management skills (PMP certification or 5-7 years of work
experience), with the ability to manage a project including resources,
milestones, and deliverables.

- Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or Master Business
Continuity Professional (MBCP)

- Ability to train recovery teams and prepare others to fulfill their roles
during an event.

- A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field is
highly preferred.

- Prior experience working in the financial services industry is preferred.
